3 Generations Behind Podere Gli Scassi Celebrate NYIOOC Win
Italian producer Podere Gli Scassi has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Winning a prestigious award from the NYIOOC is rewarding for everybody in our family, as there are three generations of us living on our farm. It takes hard work and a lot of knowledge to produce and succeed in making high-quality olive oil.

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 5,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany using traditional methods. Podere Gli Scassi earned the Gold Award for its organic medium blend.
"Winning a prestigious award from the NYIOOC is rewarding for everybody in our family, as there are three generations of us living on our farm," owner Lars Gehrig said. "It takes hard work and a lot of knowledge to produce and succeed in making high-quality olive oil."
He added that the nature of the company's groves helps them achieve their goals of high-quality production by staggering the harvest.
"Luckily our harvest was abundant and of excellent quality. Our olive groves are spread over a wide area, from almost sea level to above 400 meters," Gehrig said. "This gives us the great advantage to always harvest the olives at the right stage of ripeness as the olives mature earlier in the lower fields."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
