The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany from Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olives using traditional methods. Agricola Maraviglia earned the Gold Award for its medium blend.
"Since the start, I've worked hard to produce a top-quality, ethical olive oil capable of tickling the most sophisticated palates while beautifying our land by restoring abandoned groves," co-owner Francesco Piattelli Palmarini said.
"Winning this award recognizes our hard work and provides the opportunity for collaboration with vision-aligned stores in the United States," he added.
For the producers behind Agricola Maraviglia, this year's harvest came as a welcome reprieve from the region's strict Covid-19 restrictions.
"The harvest gave us the opportunity to stay out in open spaces and break away from the lockdown atmosphere and paralizing regulations," Piattelli Palmarini said. "Socializing with fellow workers and producers is an annual ritual that is an intrinsic part of making olive oil in Tuscany. This year, more than others, the olive harvest was a blessing."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
