In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 8,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from a blend of olives using traditional methods. Negri Olive earned the Gold Award for its medium blend.
"Negri Olive has won Gold Awards four consecutive years at the NYIOOC, a recognition that certifies our ability, determination and obsessive attention to detail," owner William Negri said.
Negri told Olive Oil Tiomes that climate change is making his – and many other farmers' – harvests increasingly difficult.
"Climate change affects farmers’ abilities to grow the food we all need," he said. "Increasingly volatile weather and more extreme events – like floods and droughts – change growing seasons, limit the availability of water, allow weeds, pests and fungi to thrive, and can reduce crop productivity."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
