OH Olive Oil Wins Gold in NYIOOC Debut

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

OH Olive Oil from the United States has won its first-ever Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

Winning gold in the NYIOOC is incredible and validates the decision I made over a year ago to bring this oil to market under our family label. We at OH are honored, fortunate and humbled to be able to accept this award on behalf of all those who came before and made it possible.

Ty Ohanneson, CEO

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 98 tons of extra virgin olive oil in California from Koroneiki olives using machine methods. OH Olive Oil earned the Gold Award for its delicate Koroneiki.

"Winning gold in the NYIOOC is incredible and validates the decision I made over a year ago to bring this oil to market under our family label," Ty Ohanneson, the company's CEO said. "We at OH are honored, fortunate and humbled to be able to accept this award on behalf of all those who came before and made it possible."

Ohanneson added that 2020 was a tough year for the company, with plenty of challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Employee safety was a top priority and proper training and information was needed to keep us all healthy and working," he said. "Sick employees were paid full wages to recover and keep others safe and while harvest came in a little underwhelming in size, it was certainly abundant in flavor."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
