The Sicilian producer earned two Gold Awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its Delicato brand, an organic medium blend and U'Ciuri brand, an organic medium Nocellara del Belice.
"The recognition for the second consecutive year of U'Ciuri receiving a Gold Award and the first Gold for Delicato... fills us with pride and will be of great help to consolidate our brand and products in the United States, where we already have two distributors, as a premium Sicilian organic brand," co-owner Paolo Miceli said.
In the 2022/23 crop year, the company used traditional methods to produce 35,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Biancolilla, Cerasuola, Arbequina, and Nocellara del Belice olives.
"We had a very hot and long summer in Sicily but, unlike the north of Italy and some other Mediterranean countries, we had also a rainy winter," Miceli said. "The rich water reserves from the lakes of our farm made it possible to be content with the temperatures and reap a harvest of extraordinary characteristics."
"The possibility of watering gave us high-quality fruits," he added. To be more sustainable consuming less water this year, we have buried the irrigation pipes so that the water reaches the roots directly without dispersion."
Held each spring in New York, The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
