4 years agoBy OOT Staff

Croatian producer Laguna Novigrad has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are very proud to have won the award at the world's most important olive oil competition for the third time. The NYIOOC award is a confirmation of the high quality of our product and we believe that it will positively affect our recognition on the global olive oil scene.

Alen Fiala, brand manager

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 7,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Istria from Frantoio olives using traditional harvesting methods. Laguna Novigrad earned the Gold Award for its Vergal brand, a medium Frantoio.

"We are very proud to have won the award at the world's most important olive oil competition for the third time," brand manager Alen Fiala said. "The NYIOOC award is a confirmation of the high quality of our product and we believe that it will positively affect our recognition on the global olive oil scene."

Fiala added that the company had enjoyed a good harvest in 2020 with the toughest challenges coming from the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic in Croatia.

"We are very pleased with this year's harvest which began as early as October," he said. "The biggest challenge we face is placing our products on the market, slowed down due to the Covid-19 pandemic."
