Lagar H Wins Two Gold Awards at World Competition for Safra

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Brazilian producer Lagar H has won two Gold Awards at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are very honored with such an important award... This shows us that we are in the right path and are happy to keep on going.

Glenda Haas, co-owner

Based in Brazil's Cachoeira do Sul, the family company earned its second-consecutive NYIOOC awards for a medium blend and a medium Koroneiki, both bottled under the Safra brand.

"We are very honored with such an important award," co-owner Glenda Haas said. "We care so much for nature and all our stakeholders."

"Every detail aimed at high quality is controlled to make an excellent product that is not only good for our body and soul but also good for the planet," she added. "These awards show us that we are on the right path and are happy to keep going."

In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 25,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

Haas partially attributed the company's success to a combination of good weather during the harvest season and its modern machinery.

"In 2022, we had an amazing crop," she said. "The producing trees had more fruit than we expected and the dry weather helped our modern and innovative Mori Tem extraction machinery produce beautiful intense flavors."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
