Acquasanta Triumphs at 2022 NYIOOC with Organic Blend
Acquasanta from Italy has won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Winning this award is a great joy. For us, it is confirmation of the great commitment we dedicate to our olive trees.
Mario Marseglia, CEO
Located on 25 hectares in the rolling hills of northern Puglia, the company earned its first-ever NYIOOC accolade for an organic medium blend of Leccino, Frantoio and Peranzana olives.
"Winning this award is a great joy," said Mario Marseglia, the company's chief executive. "For us, it is confirmation of the great commitment we dedicate to our olive trees."
In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 14,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
As with every harvest, Marseglia said the critical task is to start picking the olives at the right time and getting them to the mill as quickly as possible.
"The challenge is to recognize the right time to harvest and to make the olive oil within eight hours of the harvest," he said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
