Located in Grintovec, a village on the ridge above the Drnica Valley, the company earned its sixth-consecutive NYIOOC accolade for its Cuvee brand, an organic medium blend.
"After winning in New York, we were very happy and felt proud of our olive oil," owner Franc Morgan said. "Again, it's confirmation that we are moving in the right direction in terms of producing the best quality extra virgin olive oil."
"Winning always has a big impact on all parts of our life," he added. "The NYIOOC boosts our recognizability locally and worldwide and also helps to promote our region."
In the 2021/22 crop year, Morgan produced 3,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional harvesting methods. However, the producer had been expecting more until bad weather damaged his trees during the flowering period.
"Last year was quite devastating as nature showed us how unpredictable it could be in terms of quantity," Morgan said.
"There was a huge difference in harvest between last and the previous year, with the same problem again when the trees were blooming," he added. "Foggy and cold weather compromised flowering which result in a 40-percent lower harvest."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
