Frantoio Grove Awarded Again for Organic Frantoio at 2022 NYIOOC
Californian producer Frantoio Grove has won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Situated in San Martin, just south of San Jose in central California, the company earned its sixth NYIOOC accolade for an organic medium Frantoio monovarietal.
"When you taste your first sample you have a good idea of what you have, but it is so important to have professional tasters in a controlled environment validate your opinion," owner Jeff Martin said.
In the 2021/22 crop year, Frantoio Grove produced 9,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
Martin said the previous harvest had been a typical one, full of various challenges, but still managed to harvest a record amount of olives.
"It was a typical year – weather, equipment and labor all threw us some inside fastballs, but we managed to harvest a record 100 tons of fruit and make oil that NYIOOC deemed worth a Gold," he said. "So we are happy."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
