Situated in northeastern Tunisia, just south of the capital, the family company earned its first-ever NYIOOC award for an organic medium Chetoui bottled under the Tesoro del Rio brand.
"We are really honored to win the Gold Award that only encourages us to move forward and further improve our products," said Donia Sfar, the company's export manager.
"This also confirms our strategy that has earned our reputation: the choice of quality above any other consideration," she added.
Sfar said the only problems the family company faced this season were related to delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the 2021/22 crop year, Fermes Ali Sfar produced 900,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
