Uruguayan producer Olivas del Paso has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
This award is a great recognition of our work. We feel that we are on the right track and that we have the potential to offer excellent olive oil to consumers all over the world.

Located in the province of Durazno, in the center of the country, the company earned its premier NYIOOC award for a medium blend of Frantoio, Arbequina and Picual olives.
"This award is a great recognition of our work," co-owner Suzan Fachin said. "We feel that we are on the right track and that we have the potential to offer excellent olive oil to consumers all over the world."
In the 2021/22 crop year, Olivas del Paso produced 2,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
While handpicking the olives is key to maintaining quality, Fachin said it also presents one of the most significant challenges for the company each harvest season.
"The biggest challenge of harvesting is manpower, especially because our harvest is done manually," she said. "It is important to always recruit and maintain a good team so that the harvest does not take longer than it should."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
