La Giulina Celebrates NYIOOC Win

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer La Giulina has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

Winning the Gold Award is a great satisfaction and a recognition of our philosophy and efforts to work alongside nature by respecting its cycles and the challenges we face in terms of climate and possible pests.

Marco Lanzetta Bertani, producer

In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 300 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil in Lombardy using traditional methods. La Giulina earned the Gold Award for its organic medium Frantoio.

"Winning the Gold Award is a great satisfaction and a recognition of our philosophy and efforts to work alongside nature by respecting its cycles and the challenges we face in terms of climate and possible pests," producer Marco Lanzetta Bertani said.

For the producers behind La Giuliana, each year is full of surprises as they maintain their groves in an entirely natural state.

"2020 was a great year in terms of quantity and quality," Lanzetta Bertrani said. "We do not prune the trees or use any chemicals on them so it is always a challenge to see what nature provides each year."

"We also harvest very early and press the olives immediately within two to three hours so that we make sure to retain all the beneficial phytonutrients," he added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed on the Official Index of the World's Best Olive Oils.
