OPG Brecevic Andrea Wins Gold Again at World Competition

Croatian producer OPG Brecevic Andrea has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

This is the second year in a row that we won a Gold Award at the NYIOOC... It is always nice to receive such an important recognition and realize that all our efforts and work paid off.

The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Istria from Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, Istria Buza and Istrian Bjelica olives using traditional methods. OPG Brecevic Andrea earned the Gold Award for its medium Rheos Premium Blend.

"This is the second year in a row that we won a Gold Award at the NYIOOC," owner Andrea Brečević said. "The feeling is even better than last year because we proved our excellent quality even though we are a young brand and young manufactures. It is always nice to receive such an important recognition and realize that all our efforts and work paid off."

This year's award is even more gratifying for Brečević after the producer had to overcome plenty of challenges to once again craft a top-quality olive oil.

"Every harvest is different and challenging," he said. "We are always trying to achieve the best characteristics from each different olive variety."

"Therefore, we should follow our olives day by day, adapt to them and recognize the signs they give us," Brečević added. "All in all, the harvest was great for us, although the olive oil yield was slightly smaller than usual."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
