Est. Manuel da Silva Torrado Wins Gold at World Competition

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Est. Manuel da Silva Torrado from Portugal has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Winning a Gold Award in the NYIOOC is the consequence of our company's increasing work in the production of superior quality olive oils.

Manuel Santo, marketing manager

The Norte Alentejo producer earned a Gold Award for its Saloio brand, a medium-intensity blend. The brand previously earned a Silver Award in 2020.

"Winning a Gold Award in the NYIOOC is the consequence of our company's increasing work in the production of superior quality olive oils," marketing manager Manuel Santo said.

"This is the most prestigious competition in the world for our sector, so if we want that our brand Saloio be one of the biggest brands in the world we need to win here," he added.

In the 2022/23 crop year, the company produced 1 million liters of extra virgin olive oil.

"During this harvest, we faced a huge drought in Portugal, with a production decrease of 40 percent for our company," Santo said.

"However, we remain committed to the production of superior quality olive oil and packing all of the olive oil with our brand Saloio in different references and capacities," he added.

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
