Calabria’s Enotre Triumphant at World Competition
Italian producer Enotre has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
A Gold Award at the NYIOOC is a great satisfaction and the sign that all the passion and care we put into what we do is providing good results.
Pietro Pollizzi, owner
Located in Calabria, Italy's second-largest olive oil-producing region, the company earned a Gold Award for its Enotre Deciso brand, an organic medium blend.
"A Gold Award at the NYIOOC is a great satisfaction and the sign that all the passion and care we put into what we do is providing good results," owner Pietro Pollizzi said. "We base all of our work on our respect for nature and such a prestigious award is the way nature pays us back for our efforts and care."
The Gold was Entotre's third award from the NYIOOC, after the company earned Gold Awards in 2019 and 2020.
"The 2022 harvest was extremely tough for many reasons: during the blooming the temperature decreased and froze part of the blossoms, in spring and summer drought was particularly severe and the olive fly was also very aggressive," Pollizzi said.
"We grow our olives with organic methods and pesticides are not admitted, which made the olive fly even more dangerous," he added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
