Olive Oil Giant Deoleo Wins Two Gold Awards at 2023 NYIOOC
Deoleo, the world's largest olive oil-producing company, has won two awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
The Spanish multinational, headquartered in Andalusia, earned two Gold Awards for its Carbonell Magna Oliva 22-23 brand and its Bertolli Black Label brand, both medium-intensity blends.
Deoleo's sensorial expert, Yolanda Mesa, said the awards mean a lot to everyone involved. Despite its ability to source olives from around the Mediterranean, she added that the region's short harvest was a significant challenge and resulted in lower production.
“What the company has to do is put the consumer at the center of all our decisions and try to satisfy their needs,” chief executive Ignacio Silva told Olive Oil Times in an exclusive 2021 interview. “This way, I believe that we will achieve more sustainable development of the category than we have so far.”
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
