Corfu’s Dr. Kavvadia Awarded for Organic Monovarietals

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Greek producer Dr. Kavvadia has won two Silver Awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

The Corfu-based producer earned awards for an organic medium Lianelia and an organic medium Thiako. "We are happy that our efforts are recognized and awarded," owner Apostolos Porsanidis said.

Dr. Kavvadia, one of the pioneers of modern-day olive oil production on the western Greek island, previously earned Gold and Silver Awards for its Lianelia in 2018 and 2020. Both brands received Silver Awards in 2021 too.

Each year is challenging for an olive farmer, and Porsanidis said the 2022/23 crop year was no exception.

"We had a very dry summer leading to a warm autumn, causing an early maturity of the crops and a sudden increase of the fly," he confirmed.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
