Albori Wins Gold Award for Peranzana
Italian producer Albori has won a Gold Award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
(The award) gives us the strength and motivation to believe and continue to invest in our high-quality extra virgin olive oil project.
Giovannipio Gravina, owner
The Puglia-based producer earned the award for a medium monovarietal Peranzana.
"For our small agricultural reality and very young project, having received this recognition is very significant," owner Giovannipio Gravina said.
"It gives us the strength and motivation to believe and continue to invest in our high-quality extra virgin olive oil project," he added.
In the 2022/23 crop year, Albori produced 2,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods. Gravina cited abnormally high temperatures during the harvest as one of the main challenges.
"This year, the rise in temperatures during the olive harvest put a strain on the harvest," he said. "We feared for the quality of the finished product. But by anticipating the harvest period and working with innovative production processes, we have managed to keep our quality standards unchanged."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
