Cordioli Erminio & Co Celebrate NYIOOC Win

2 years agoBy OOT Staff

Cordioli Erminio & Co from Italy celebrated its second-ever accolade at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Bringing our oils to the United States, where Veneto olive oils are not well know, has always been a goal and we are happy to have this recognition to help validate our brand stateside.

Ceil Friedman, co-owner

The Vento-based producer earned its second Gold Award for its Campo delle Marogne brand, a medium blend of Frantoio, Moraiolo and Itrana olives. The brand was previously awarded Gold in 2019.

"It’s a thrill [to win this award] since we are an Italian (husband) and American (wife) team, and I am a New Yorker," co-owner Ceil Friedman said.

"Bringing our oils to the United States, where Veneto olive oils are not well known, has always been a goal, and we are happy to have this recognition to help validate our brand stateside," she added.

In the 2022/23 crop year, the company produced 1,400 liters of extra virgin olive oil. Despite their success, Friedman said the company had to overcome many challenges to reach this point.

"One of the biggest challenges is finding people interested in working the harvest," she said. "We were fortunate to assemble a great, international team, which made the harvest go smoothly."

"The cost of milling has also risen, but that’s an area where one cannot cut corners," Friedman added. "The capability of the miller is essential to the final product."

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
