Tofino Estate’s Tuscan Blend Wins Gold

Tofino Estate from the United States celebrated a third consecutive award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

The small-scale Calfornia-based producer earned its third Gold Award in three years for its Supremo brand, a robust blend.

"We are so happy and thank NYIOOC for giving us such recognition with an award," chief executive Mary Quan said. "Winning a Gold from the NYIOOC is more than an honor and gives our company that special edge that, yes, our extra virgin olive oil is superb."

In the 2022/23 crop year, Tofino Estate produced 322 liters of extra virgin olive oil from a range of Tuscan olive varieties using traditional methods.

Despite their success, Quan said this harvest season had plenty of challenges.

"This year, our most concerning challenge towards the end of the season and at harvest was the heat," she said. "Rushing harvest early in the morning and then to mill was the most challenging for this harvest. We made it."

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
