The Greek producer Ariston Arcadia Cooperative has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
This means everything for us, we started this business to procure the best quality extra virgin olive oil. To get the validation that we can stand up with the best olive oils around the world is a massive reward for our hard work.
Anthony Boutsikakis, owner
Their winning oil was the Village Batch brand, an organic medium Koroneiki produced on the Peloponnese peninsula.
"This means everything for us, we started this business to procure the best quality extra virgin olive oil," owner Anthony Boutsikakis said. "To get the validation that we can stand up with the best olive oils around the world is a massive reward for our hard work. It's really thrilling, and it energizes us to keep doing better every year."
The company produces organic extra virgin olive oil from Koroneiki olives using traditional methods.
Boutsikakis said that this previous year was no more or less challenging than the ones that came before it. He expects the same will be true in the 2020/21 season.
"The challenge every year for us is to expect the unexpected because there is never a shortage of issues that can alter our product or its availability," he said. "These issues range from climate, tree health, invasive insects and available help to market stability and prices."
"We minimize these challenges by having trustworthy, quality colleagues in the field," Boutsikakis added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
