Soresa Awarded in New York for Caixeiro Blend
Northern Portuguese producer Soresa has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
This award is a very important recognition for us... It makes us want to do more and better, and inspire other young people to believe in our region and bring people back.

Situated in Trás-os-Montes, the company earned its second consecutive award at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest for its Caixeiro brand, an organic medium blend.
"This award is a very important recognition for us, as a young project, with a long family tradition in the production of olive oil," owner Edgar Morais said. "It makes us want to do more and better, and inspire other young people to believe in our region and bring people back."
In the 2021/22 crop year, Soresa produced 24,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil from Cobrancosa, Verdeal and Madural olives using traditional methods.
Despite another successful year in New York, Morais said that Soresa faced plenty of challenges throughout the harvest.
"For our region, the harvest was complex on several levels," he said. "There was a lack of manpower. We have some 100-year-old traditional olive groves and the manpower is really very important. The inconstant weather and the lack of rain also have not helped."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
