The Dalmatian producer earned the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition award for an organic medium-intensity blend of Leccino, Oblica and Levantinka olives.
"We are incredibly proud of our first international award. It proves that the hard work of our family has been recognized," co-owner Nikola Rogulj said. "This award will motivate us to stay passionate about producing premium organic extra virgin olive oil."
While finding enough workers to harvest all the olives by hand is always a challenge, Rogulj said the region's drought further complicated the previous harvest.
"Since the fruits are harvested by hand, the harvest goes slowly," he said. "It also depends on weather conditions and the availability of the workers. The biggest challenge is drought, due to which the trees must be regularly watered and maintained."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
