Quinta dos Olmais Awarded Again at NYIOOC
Portuguese producer Quinta dos Olmais has been awarded at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
Back in 2016, we entered the NYIOOC for the very first time and won an award... it gave us the courage to go all-in with our brand. Since then, we've entered this competition every year, and we plan on keep doing it for as long as there is an NYIOOC and an Olmais.

Based in northern Trás-os-Montes, the company earned a Silver Award for its Omais brand, an organic delicate Cobrancosa. The brand has been awarded five times at the World Competition since 2016.
"Back in 2016, we entered the NYIOOC for the very first time and won an award," owner Julio Alves said. "It was our very first competition and our very first award."
"Back then, it gave us the courage to go "all-in" with our brand," he added. "Since then, we've entered this competition every year, and we plan on keep doing it for as long as there is an NYIOOC and an Olmais."
For the producers behind Olmaius, this year's award is especially gratifying, with Portugal's severe drought posing their most significant obstacle to producing an award-winning extra virgin olive oil.
"This was the toughest year we ever had," Alves said. "Bad weather during flowering and drought throughout the year impacted production numbers. Fortunetaly our early harvest allowed us to avoid the fruit fly and get a high-quality olive oil."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
