Planeta Awarded for Its Sicilian Blend
Planeta from Italy has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Sicilia (Italy) using traditional harvesting methods.
"We are truly happy and flattered by this award," Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta told Olive Oil Times. "We are happy especially because we think that consumers are more and more appreciating true quality in premium olive oils from the best areas of the world. Consumers are finally understanding that a great bottle of olive oil is mandatory in any real food lover's kitchen."
Planeta won a Silver Award for its Planeta Tradizionale, a medium blend.
"The last harvest was not challenging for us," the Planetas said. "Quality was at its best, while quantity compared to the last 5 years was average. Moreover, we run our 148 hectares of olive trees in the Oasi di Capparrina (Menfi - Sicily) with the gentlest and most respectful agricultural procedures, so we are much less liable to production's ups and downs."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
