Monte do Camelo Awarded for Outstanding Galega
Monte do Camelo Lda from Portugal has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Norte Alentejano (Portugal) from Galega olives using traditional methods.
"We received this award with great pleasure and privilege," said co-owner Ana Cardoso upon hearing news of the achievement. "Being our first EVOO and considering the distinguished contest, this award gives us the strength to continue the right path and it is very valuable to promote our product."
Winning the industry's most coveted award in the first season of production is an astonishing feat and a testament to the determination of the new producers.
"The 21/22 campaign was unique because it was our first extraction, which means that the harvest and extraction were activities done almost simultaneously," Cardoso noted. "Learning how to handle the equipment was another challenge, but clearly, we are on the right track. Our commitment to a high-quality EVOO for sure drove us to this award.
Monte do Camelo won a Silver Award for its Tratturo de Fronteira, a delicate Galegaproduced in Norte Alentejano, Portugal.
