OPG Makjanić Moškatelo Strikes Gold Again at NYIOOC
Family farmers OPG Makjanić Moškatelo have won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
(This award) means that we are on the right path and we have to keep up with our great work in the future to continue producing the best olive oil possible.

Situated on the island of Hvar, off the Dalmatian coastline of southern Croatia, the producer earned its second-consecutive NYIOOC accolade for its MMuje brand, a medium Lastovka.
"We are very happy and proud to have won two Gold Awards for our olive oil at the NYIOOC in 2021 and 2022," owner Toma Makjanić said.
"It means a lot for us because it proves that the hard work and passion we share for olives and olive oil pays off," he added. "It means that we are on the right path and we have to keep up with our great work in the future to continue producing the best olive oil possible."
In the 2021/22 crop year, OPG Makjanić Moškatelo produced 800 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
Makjanić said that the previous harvest had come with plenty of challenges, which resulted in lower yields than anticipated.
"But the quality was excellent," he said. "For a few seasons in a row, we had trouble with low rainfall and very dry hot summers."
"Since we don’t have irrigation systems we depend on rain and hopefully this summer will be better for our olives," Makjanić added. "The climate is changing and that is the challenge we will all face in time."
