Located in the heights of Testour in the country's northwest, the organic agricultural estate earned three Gold Awards for a medium Arbosana, a medium Chetoui and a medium blend.
"We are very proud and excited after winning the NYIOOC for the third consecutive year," owner Ben Ayed Salah said. "It highlights the quality of our oils internationally and we are looking forward to entering the American market."
In the 2021/22 crop year, Domaine Adonis produced 15,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Arbosana, Chetoui, Picholine, Chemlali and Sayali olives using traditional methods.
Ayed Salah attributed some of this year's marked success to an unusually calm harvest season. "The company didn't face any particular challenge this year," he said.
However, others in Tunisia are worried about the long-term impacts of climate change on the country's prolific olive sector.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
