The Istrian producer earned a Gold Award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its Ex Albis brand, a medium blend of Buza, Bjelica and Rosulja-Rosignola olives.
"Winning at the NYIOOC is an honor for our company and us," co-owner Sandi Chiavalon said. "It signifies our hard work and dedication to producing high-quality extra virgin olive oil has paid off."
"Winning establishes our brand and credibility within the industry in the United States," she added. "We feel thrilled and grateful for this achievement and are motivated to continue improving."
The 2023 NYIOOC was the sixth-consecutive edition of the world's largest olive oil quality competition in which OPG Chiavalon was awarded. The company earned a Silver Award in 2018 and straight Gold Awards since 2019.
Despite the producer's sustained NYIOOC success and a fruitful harvest, Chiavalon said there were still plenty of obstacles to producing award-winning olive oil.
"Last year's olive harvest was exceptional in terms of both quality and quantity, without significant climatic challenges like in 2021," Chiavalon said. "However, the Covid-19 pandemic posed logistical difficulties in transportation and disrupted the supply chain for lot packing materials. It was a challenging year, but we managed to make it a harvest to remember."
