OPG Chiavalon produces organic extra virgin olive oil from Moraiolo, Buza, Rosignola, Bianchera and Carbonazza olives using traditional harvesting methods.
"Winning a Gold Award at the NYIOOC is a big recognition for our family and motivation for us to continue improving upon all the hard work that we do here year-round," co-owner Tedi Chiavalon said.
"On this international stage, we compete with only the best, so it’s truly an honor to achieve such an award and to continue maintaining the bar each year on that level and rise even higher," he added.
Chiavalon added that the 2019/20 season was a difficult one for himself, as for many other producers in Croatia.
"2019 was, in fact, a challenging year for many olive oil producers due to unusual weather conditions at a crucial part of the year," he said. "Nonetheless, we can definitely say, that the 2019 harvest was excellent quality-wise, beyond our expectations."
