Tèra de Prie Wins Gold With Terrific Taggiasca
Italian producer Tèra de Prie has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
I feel pretty happy because tomorrow I'll be able to call our team members and tell them, one by one, that their devotion made this wonderful achievement possible.
Nicola Ferrarese, co-owner
In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 4,000 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil in Liguria from Taggiasca olives using traditional methods. Tèra de Prie earned the Gold Award for its organic medium Taggiasca.
"I feel pretty happy because tomorrow I'll be able to call our team members and tell them, one by one, that their devotion made this wonderful achievement possible," co-owner Nicola Ferrarese said.
He added that 2020/21 had been a good year for the company, in general, with good weather yielding healthy olives.
"During the 2020/21 harvest, nature was good to us: we had healthy olives and good weather," Ferrarese said. "We came from a 2019/20 season where we simply didn't get a single olive."
"This said, the main challenge was exactly the one the entire world faced, with a major reduction of sales and difficulties being together safely at work," he added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
