The California-based producer earned a Gold Award for its organic medium blend and a Silver Award for its organic delicate Ascolano.
"We are really excited about the awards," co-owner Richard Matthews said. "They make our efforts much more worthwhile. We love making a product that is healthy for the consumer as well as tastes great!"
MoonShadow Grove produces organic extra virgin olive oil from Ascolano, Nocellara and Mission olives using traditional harvesting methods.
One of the challenges faced by Matthews this season was finding an organic mill, as the one he usually uses was not in operation.
"Our go-to-mill was no longer operating and we had to find an organic mill close enough to ensure good oil," he said. "We spent a lot more time on the road with the olives."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
