Bozelli Wins Gold Award at World Competition
Bozelli from Turkey has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The company produces extra virgin olive oil from the Koroneiki, Arbequina, Arbosana and Ayvalik olive varieties using intensive farming methods.
After the competition, our consumer portfolio has increased. Winning this award wiped out all of our tiredness and left happiness and pride instead.
Mustafa Hazer, Owner
The 2019/2020 season was marked by significant challenges, Mustafa Hazer, the company's owner said after receiving news of the award.
"Our biggest challenge was the hailed storm in 2019," Hazer said. "It reduced our production by 69 percent. We also had extreme heat during fruit ripening which has been making our agricultural practices more complex every year. 2019 was no exception. It was probably one of the most challenging."
Bozelli won a Gold Award for its medium-intensity blend.
"We first felt so happy and then we were proud," Hazer added. "We proved to ourselves and to our customers that we are producing worldwide quality olive oil. After the competition, our consumer portfolio has increased. Winning this award wiped out all of our tiredness and left happiness and pride instead."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
