5 years agoBy Olive Oil Times

Spanish producer Manuel Coca Morán took its second NYIOOC Gold Award at the 2020 edition of the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are very happy and proud to have obtained this award. It means recognition of our work for making one of the best extra virgin olive oils in the world.

The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia from Picual olives using traditional harvesting methods.

Several complicating factors were at play during the 2019/2020 season, company CEO Juan José Coca said when learning of the award.

"The 2019 harvest has been complex for several reasons. Initially we find a very early ripening of the olive due to the climate of the area," Coca said.

"On the other hand, we have found a very large drop in prices at the origin due to speculative markets. And finally, the COVID-19 crisis is putting a lot of obstacles in exporting," he added.

Manuel Coca Morán won a Gold Award for its Morán label, a medium-intensity Picual monovarietal.

"We are very happy and proud to have obtained this award. It means recognition of our work for making one of the best extra virgin olive oils in the world. Due to its quality and its tradition, Manuel Coca Morán once again succeeds in gourmet markets around the world," Coca said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
