Guiseppe Campanale, Owner, Mazzone Extravergine
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Puglia from Coratina olives using traditional methods.
The season didn't go completely smoothly, the company's owner said after learning of the win.
"The first challenge we had to face was the lack of water in the summer/autumn period, many olives on the trees ... [but] difficulties in finding and selecting quality olives," Giuseppe Campanale said.
"It was also very difficult to manage the processing times in the oil mill, given the exceptional abundance of the vintage," he added.
The company was awarded for its Mazzone, a robust Coratina that is produced by Olio Mazzone in Puglia, Italy.
"Having won at NYIOOC fills us with pride, it gratifies us for the efforts made, as proof of the fact that dedication and commitment are always rewarded. For us, it is the first time that we participate in this competition and it has great value for us." Campanale said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
