Kristofola Awarded for Buza in 5th Straight NYIOOC

2 years agoBy OOT Staff

Kristofola from Croatia has won its fifth-straight award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition. The Istrian producer earned a Gold Award for its medium Buza monovarietal.

"We are very proud to win a Gold Award for the fifth year in a row at the NYIOOC," co-owner Marko Prgomet said. "The award is a recognition of our hard work and the fantastic nature and conditions in Istria, Croatia."

In the 2022/23 crop year, Kristofola produced 2,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

While Prgomet did not cite the climate as a challenge this year, he had trouble finding workers to harvest his 1,800 trees. "The shortage of labor was the biggest challenge we faced in 2023," he confirmed.

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
