Agro Tarım Awarded for ‘Arba Karan’ Ayvalik

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Karan Agro Tarım Urunleri from Turkey has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

The 120-hectare family farm, located north of the Aegean Sea, earned its first-ever NYIOOC award for to Arba Karan brand, a delicate Ayvalik.

"This award is great news for us. In the next years, we will try to enter other types of olive oils that we produce," co-owner Yigit Karan said.

In the 2021/22 crop year, the company produced 80 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods from its 15,000-tree grove.

Despite their success, Karan said the climate proved to be particularly challenging this year, along with sorting out transportation logistics.

"Weather conditions affected our harvest time on some of the days," he said. "Also, we had to deliver olives in four hours to the mill so we faced transportation problems."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
