The family olive grove, located in northwestern Istria, earned a Gold Award for its De Kleva brand, a medium blend.

"It is a special honor and pleasure to be one of the winners of the NYIOOC, and it lets us know that everyone in the company is doing a good job," owner Marija Bursic said.

Since 2014, the De Keva brand has earned a Best in Class, six Gold Awards and a Silver Award at the competition.

"Every year, the harvest time is very demanding but also very beautiful and interesting," Bursic said. "Thanks to the dry year, the last harvest was excellent for olives that were healthy and thus contributed to the production of high-quality olive oil."

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
