Little Gypsy Farms Wins 2 Awards at World Competition
Greek producer Little Gypsy Farms has won two Silver Awards at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The challenges in a post-Covid world are endless for small family farms.

The Kalamata-based company earned awards from the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for a medium Koroneiki and its High Mountain Organic brand, an organic medium Koroneiki.
Little Gypsy Farms previously earned a Gold Award in 2020 and Silver Award in 2021 at the competition.
"We appreciate the NYIOOC putting a focus on small farm-direct brands and helping to educate consumers on what constitutes a quality extra virgin olive oil in a world dominated by large industrial farming brands and an overwhelming selection in the grocery store," owner George Gyftakis said.
"Modern consumers enjoy the process of authentic brand discovery from a transparent, trusted source," he added.
Gyftakis said Little Gypsy Farms overcame numerous challenges throughout the harvest, including labor shortages and supply chain difficulties.
"The challenges in a post-Covid world are endless for small family farms," he said. "This year, in particular, we had difficulties finding labor to help during harvest season, and securing bottles and packaging materials proved difficult for our UV-protected bottles. The war in Ukraine has severely limited glass production across Europe."
Held each spring in New York, The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
