Hacienda de Colchado Wins 6th Gold Award for Legado
Spanish producer Hacienda de Colchado has won a Gold Award at the 2021 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
For us, winning the NYIOOC is a great achievement. We work hard year after year to produce a unique oil, which differentiates us from the rest, and we love to see our work recognized.
Perfecto Matas, CEO
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia. Hacienda de Colchado earned its sixth-consecutive Gold Award for its Legado brand, a medium Hojiblanca.
"For us, winning the NYIOOC is a great achievement," Perfecto Matas, the company's CEO, said. "We work hard year after year to produce a unique oil, which differentiates us from the rest, and we love to see our work recognized."
"We have a large market in the United States, with years of experience exporting our products to the U.S., so for us, it is one of the most important titles in terms of marketing," he added.
Crafting an award-winning extra virgin olive oil is always a race against time for the producers behind Hacienda de Colchado. The NYIOOC award serves as proof that they won.
"One of the big challenges was the speed of transporting the harvested olives to the mill," Matas said. "This is always a great challenge because the coordination of the team has to be perfect, so that the fruit is milled as soon as possible, a maximum of two hours after harvesting."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
