Fifth Straight Triumph for Crete’s Anoskeli at NYIOOC
Greek producer Anoskeli has won a fifth-consecutive accolade at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
We are extremely proud of yet another award in the NYIOOC, but even more so this year, given the challenges we had to face to deliver the best quality olive oil we could.
Eleftheria Mamidaki, marketing manager
The Crete-based company earned a Gold Award for a medium Koroneiki. The brand previously earned Silver Awards in 2019, 2020 and 2022, along with a Gold Award in 2021.
"We are extremely proud of yet another award in the NYIOOC, but even more so this year, given the challenges we had to face to deliver the best quality olive oil we could," marketing manager Eleftheria Mamidaki said.
"This Gold Award comes as the ultimate reward for our efforts to overcome all the challenges we had to face, and we are thankful to our people for their hard work," she added.
In the 2022/23 crop year, Anoskeli produced 600 tons of extra virgin olive oil. Mamidaki said macroeconomic and labor-related challenges were the company's biggest obstacles to producing award-winning olive oil this season.
"It was undoubtedly a challenging year for us due to substantial disruptions in the supply chain (eg. shortages in glass bottles and other packaging material), scarcity of farm laborers, increased costs of labor, fertilizers and energy and spikes of olive fly infestations," she confirmed.
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
