Fattoria di Volmiano Wins Gold for Tuscan Blend
Italian producer Fattoria di Volmiano has returned to winning ways at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
I’m so proud to win at the NYIOOC. This award is a challenge to make better extra virgin olive oil next year.
Lapo Gondi, CEO
The Tuscan producer earned a Gold Award for its Laudemio Fattoria di Volmiano brand, an organic medium blend, which also earned a Gold Award in 2021.
"I’m so proud to win at the NYIOOC," chief executive Lapo Gondi told Olive Oil Times. "This award is a challenge to make better extra virgin olive oil next year."
In the 2022/23 crop year, the company produced 20,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olives using traditional methods.
Despite their successful end to the season, Gondi said the company faced plenty of challenges throughout the harvest.
"This year was very difficult because we had problems finding employees for the harvesting and also reducing the damage of the dry season and hot temperature," he said. "It was amazing to produce very good olive oil and control every risk."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
