Farchioni Olii Extends NYIOOC Winning Streak
Farchioni Olii from Italy has won three awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
These awards are the result of the hard work my company has been carrying out for generations. This gratification makes us even more proud.
Marco Farchioni, owner
Situated in Umbria, the company earned two Gold Awards for a pair of medium blends: Olivicoltura Eroica and DOP Umbria Colli Martani. Farchioni Olii also won a Silver Award for its Collezione di Famiglia brand, a medium blend.
"These awards are the result of the hard work my company has been carrying out for generations," owner Marco Farchioni said. "This gratification makes us even more proud."
The company produces extra virgin olive oil from 1 million Frantoio, Moraiolo, Maurino, Leccio del Corno, Leccino and San Felice olives using traditional methods.
Farchioni cited the historic drought as the main challenge he faced in producing extra virgin olive oil in the previous crop year.
"We have seen a slow and steady increase in commodity prices," he said. "The 2022 harvest was disastrous for Italy and the same for Spain. The drought has produced a total debacle. It was the lowest campaign in eight years."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
