Egenin Kalbi Awarded for Arbequina

3 years agoBy OOT Staff

Egenin Kalbi has won a Silver Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Turkey from Arbequina olives using traditional harvesting methods.

"We are feeling very happy and honored," said Halil Turan, the company's co-owner. "After today we are updating the target. We must develop sustainable quality. We want to reach much more customers. This award will help us to our target."

Egenin Kalbi won a Silver Award for its medium Arbequina monovarietal extra virgin olive oil. "The harvest was really hard," Turan admitted. "It hasn't rained enough. Especially in the last few weeks, we desperately needed rain."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
