The Andalusian producer earned two Gold Awards for its medium-intensity Picual Reserva Familiar and Picual Serie Oro Serie Limitada brands.
"Without a doubt, the NYIOOC is the most influential competition in the world," owner Enrique Del Águila said. "Our two award-winning oils open doors for us in international markets."
Casa del Águila is no stranger to success in the competition, having earned ten awards since 2020.
In the 2022/23 crop year, the company produced 400 tons of extra virgin olive oil. Despite the awards and healthy harvest, del Águila said the increasingly hot and dry climate remained a significant challenge.
"In Jaén, we have had to deal with a very severe drought last year, which has made harvesting very difficult," he said.
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
