In the 2020/21 crop year, the company produced 500,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil in Andalusia from Picual olives using traditional methods. Casa del Aguila earned the Gold Award for its medium Picual Reserva Familiar and the Silver Award for its Serie Tauromaquia Limited Edition, also a medium Picual.
"We enter the NYIOOC every year due to the great marketing opportunities and international relevance it has," Enrique Del Aguila, the company's CEO, said.
He added that the previous harvest had been an unusual one as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the company overcame these challenges to produce its award-winning oils.
"This past year has been very unusual due to the pandemic," del Aguila said. "We had to comply with strict safety measures for all the staff that participated in the harvest."
"Anyhow, even with a low percentage of oil all around Andalusia, quality was above average," he added.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
