Permaculture Producer Carma Wins 2 Awards at World Competition
Carma from Italy has won two awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
We always like to test ourselves in international competition, and obviously, the NYOOC is a well-known contest with recognized professionalism.
Giulio di Gropello, CEO
The organic permaculture producer earned a Gold Award for its 100x100 Carma brand, an organic medium blend produced in Tuscany, and a Silver Award for its Essenza di Carma Bio brand, an organic medium blend produced in Lazio.
"We always like to test ourselves in international competition, and obviously, the NYOOC is a well-known contest with recognized professionalism," chief executive Giulio di Gropello said.
"We also understand that, slowly but steadily, the United States market is becoming serious about this incredible product," he added. "The healthiest fruit juice in the world deserves the attention of the most important market."
In the 2022/23 crop year, Carma produced between 8,000 and 9,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil.
"Heat waves at the end of May damaged the Frantoio trees' flowers, so for that cultivar, we had a reduced yield," Gropello said. "The olives were very healthy, and we had a nice autumn."
"We started harvesting Leccino around October 20th, followed by Frantoio, Maurino and Moraiolo," he added. "Rain came at the end of November and harvest was completed by mid-December. Overall, it was a good year."
Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
