Frantoio Franci Wins 2 Golds at World Competition

4 years agoBy OOT Staff

The Italian producer Frantoio Franci has won two Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Winning a competition is certainly a great satisfaction, but receiving this prize is an extraordinary recognition. It pays back our many sacrifices and gives absolute value to our work, passion and constant commitment to improve our product.

The company, which is based in Tuscany, picked up the awards for two medium blends: Donna Romina and Donna Romina Black Label.

"Winning a competition is certainly a great satisfaction, but receiving this prize is an extraordinary recognition" owner Tun Seng Loo said.

"It pays back our many sacrifices and gives absolute value to our work, passion and constant commitment to improve our product," he added.

In the 2019/20 season, Frantoio Franci produced 85,250 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Coratina, Leccino, Peranzana, Frantoio, Moraiolo and Olivastra-Seggianese olives using traditional harvesting methods.

Seng Loo said that the 2019/20 season was marked by significant challenges, including the erratic climate.

"The climatic trend in recent years has always been surprising and also this year has shown clear and unexpected alternations, so unpredictable as to compromise the work of a whole year," he said. "This unpredictability prevented the correct planning of the harvest and of the entire production."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
