Azienda Olivicola Petrazzuoli Wins Gold
Azienda Olivicola Petrazzuoli from Italy has won a Gold Award at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The company produces extra virgin olive oil in Campania (Italy) from Frantoio, Ortice and Caiazzana olives using traditional methods.
"I am honored to win the gold for the third consecutive year in this prestigious competition," Giovanni Petrazzuoli said when receiving news of the award. "We work in a small town called Ruviano, in the province of Caserta, of about 1,600 inhabitants and it is a great pride for us to win this award."
Azienda Olivicola Petrazzuoli won a Gold Award for its Fontana Lupo, a medium blend produced in Campania, Italy.
The award-winning producer described a workaround for the widespread drought that marked the season in many regions.
"The main difficulty this year was due to global warming, which caused aridity and drought, and to avoid making the olive trees suffer we built cisterns to store spring water irrigate at crucial times," Petrazzuoli told Olive Oil Times.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
